| Note that the rotary switch of the controller is pointing at a setting (1) labelled "Stop RUNOFF - set Cycle Limit".
Note that the display (2) shows that Valve #3 is set to run for 40 minutes with each Start Time and that the 40 minutes will be limited to 8 minute per hour.
In our "Built for the Builder" program, the Landscape Architect can specify the Cycle Limit for each valve to eliminate erosion and runoff. WeatherSet will make that Cycle Limit part the default watering programs in controllers shipped to the home builders. After installation, this Cycle Limit can be easily changed if needed by following the procedure below.
WeatherSet's procedure for eliminating runoff and stopping erosion is easy for contractors and homeowners to understand and use. We simply ask the contractor or homeowner to
- Choose valve that is likely to have runoff and erosion problems.
- Run that valve until runoff begins. (WeatherSet controllers will display the elapsed minutes of watering as the valve is activated.)
- Take that elapsed time and divide it in half and set that time into the controller as the Cycle Limit.
- Perform this test for each valve that may cause runoff and limit these other valves as test indicate.
Eliminating runoff and stopping erosion can be this simple. Protecting hardscape from water damage can be this simple.
WeatherSet ships all its controllers with the Cycle Limit set a 4 minutes. So, even if the homeowner does not perform the above test and set the controller, WeatherSet controllers will, by default, make great steps in stopping erosion and runoff.
This procedure is an example of Smart Water Application Technology (SWAT) ...the smartest and simplest on the market.

Environmental benefits when runoff is reduced....
The pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and animal wastes on your property stay there longer and become less harmful. If your sprinkler system washes newly applied chemicals from you lawn into the street and into the storm drains, these chemicals go into the groundwater, lakes and streams which are the sources of your drinking water. Reducing contamination of groundwater is a second very important reason to install smart irrigation controllers from the WeatherSet Company.
These sources of pollution are know as "non point source".
